History
The Caroline Ladd Pratt House, located at 229 Clinton Avenue, was built in the late nineteenth century as the home of Frederic and Caroline Ladd Pratt. Designed in the Neo-Georgian style, the house reflects a time when Clinton Hill was emerging as one of Brooklyn’s most distinguished residential neighborhoods.
Today, the building is part of the Pratt Institute campus and lies within the Clinton Hill Historic District. Serving as the residence of the Pratt Institute president, it continues to host institutional gatherings and events, maintaining its historic presence while remaining an active part of Brooklyn’s cultural life.
