Dime Savings Bank of New York
9 Dekalb Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11201
History
9 DeKalb Avenue is the site of the historic Dime Savings Bank Building, constructed between 1906 and 1908 as the headquarters of the Dime Savings Bank of Brooklyn. Designed in the neoclassical style, the building follows design conventions common to early twentieth-century financial institutions.
Today, the site also serves as the base of the Brooklyn Tower, a contemporary residential tower constructed above the preserved landmark structure. Together, the two buildings reflect different periods of development at the site and the ongoing growth of Downtown Brooklyn.
